Tom Longboat

It was rumored that Tom Longboat once outran a horse in a twelve-mile race. Whether it is true or not, he did earn bragging rights after winning many races and breaking numerous records. His wins included the 1906 Hamilton Around-the-Bay Marathon, the 1907 Boston Marathon, the 1906 to 1908 Toronto Ward Marathons, as well as the 1909 World's Professional Marathon Championship. Longboat was one of the most celebrated pre-WWI Indigenous Canadian athletes.
