Andrew Reekie

2004 Honouree – Builder, Swimming

Andrew H. Reekie is the founder of the Brantford YM-YWCA Aquatic Club. This club has won numerous honors, including several Ontario and Canadian championships. Reekie founded the Y Club when he discovered that several girls were in need of more advance swimming instruction. One female that was a swimming pupil of Andrew H. Reekie was Sara Barber, Brantford’s Olympic swimmer. Reekie was a member of many different societies for many years. He was termed by the YM-YWCA as “one in a million.” Reekie played a prominent part in the preparation of an Ontario Recreation Commission brief of physical fitness in Canada, which was submitted to the Federal Government. Andrew H. Reekie died in July of 1957.
