Frank Merrill

1984 Inductee – Horse Racing

Frank Merrill Merrill was known as “The Greatest,” and will likely never be equaled by any Canadian-born thoroughbred racehorse trainer. Merrill was the three-time leading North American trainer and saddled 3,968 winning horses in his lifetime. He was able to take unlikely racers and bring them to the victory circle with his knowledge of healing and training horses. An interesting fact: in 1977, a portion of the movie The Black Stallion was filmed on his farm.
