Jersey worn by Wilkes when he played for the Intercounty League with the Brantford Red Sox

This swift outfielder, nicknamed “Seabiscuit”, after the award-winning racehorse, knew how to bring speed to the game. He caught the eye of the Brantford Red Sox team and played for ten seasons in the city, from 1953-1963. Not only did Wilkes bring speed to the game but he brought the first African-American representation to the sport in Brantford.
