Mike Beres

Mike Beres Mike Beres was introduced to badminton at age nine. He played for the Brantford Junior Badminton Club, the Woodstock Badminton Club and climbed to the national level. In 1992 Mike moved to Calgary to compete internationally, and after competing in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, he moved to Ottawa. After sixteen years on the national team (1992-2008), Mike won nine national championships, twenty-six international titles, seven Pan Am Games medals, and achieved a mixed doubles world ranking of thirteen. He competed in forty-five different countries, three Olympics (2000, 2004, 2008), three Pan Am Games (1999, 2003, 2007), two Commonwealth Games (1998, 2006), eight World Championships (1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005-2007) and countless international tournaments.

    Gold & Silver - Pan Am Games Medals

    Competing at the 2007 Pan Am Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Beres took home the silver in mixed doubles with Brantford, ON native Valerie Locker and won gold in men’s singles and men's doubles with Edmonton, AB native William Milroy.

    Playing with Edmonton, AB native William Milroy in men's doubles, Beres won the 2004 Czech Republic International Blue Crystal Vase in Prague, Czech Republic.

    Gold, Silver & Bronze - Pan Am Games Medals

    Completing at the 2003 Pan Am Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Beres took the bronze in men's doubles with Paris, ON native Kyle Hunter; the silver in mixed doubles, with Calgary, AB native Jody Patrick; and the gold in men's singles.
