1974 Brantford Town and Country Siding Intermediate A Ontario Champions

1974 Brantford Town CountyThe 1974, the Brantford Town and Country Siding team played a successful season, entering the finals with 12 wins and only three loses. Brantford held a strong grip on their first place position with effective offence. The team finished off the regular season defeating the London Monte Carlo.

After the conclusion of the 1974 regular season, the women of the Brantford Town and Country Siding team set their sights on the North Tonawanda Shamrocks who were the first place team in the senior “A” league. In order to fight above their weight class, a tournament was hosted after the conclusion of the Provincial women’s softball union intermediate “A” series championships.

The first game of the playoffs was against Shakespeare in Brantford. This was to be a best of three series. Brantford won the first and third games in the series 11 to 0 and 6 to 4, respectively. After defeating Shakespeare, the Brantford Town and Country Siding team were to move in to the finals to face off against a team with an identical win/loss record, the Kitchener Civitans. Each team had twelve wins and four losses to their name. The Brantford Town and Country Siding team defeated Kitchener, securing their well-earned place as the Provincial Women’s Softball Union Intermediate “A” series Champions. The team went on to host a tournament with the Brantford Gervans, the North Tonawanda Shamrocks and a few other teams in the Midwestern conference.

The majority of the girls who played for the Brantford Town and Country Siding team ended up playing together for several years, winning numerous age group titles along the way. In 1975, the team, sponsored by the Prince Edward Hotel, moved up to the Ontario Senior Ladies League.
