1993 Honouree – Builder, Basketball

Paul Mitchell Paul Mitchell learned to play basketball at the Brantford YMCA at the young age of seven years old. Paul began coaching girls’ basketball with in grade seven competing in the Brantford Church League. Paul was the co-founder of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) basketball program in 1956. Paul was a basketball referee for 36 years from 1956 to 1979, he headed the Brantford and District Association of approved basketball officials and served on the executive of the Ontario Association of Basketball Officials for 12 years including a two year term as president from 1980 to 1982. The Paul Mitchell Invitational Basketball Tournament is one of the oldest and most prestigious boys youth basketball tournaments in Canada. Paul has been recognized because of his outstanding contribution made to basketball and basketball officiating by the Canadian Association of Basketball Officials in 1991.
